"Sometimes it's impossible to fix them"

"There's a story behind every person.
There's a reason why they're the way they are.
They aren't just like that because they want to.
Something in the past created them, and
sometimes it's impossible to fix them."

Bhut Jolokia a.k.a Ghost Chili

This post will be about my recently discovered hobby. Which is... Gardening! (to those who know me: YES BELIEVE IT OR NOT LOL) This time last year, I would not even touch soil unless I absolutely had to, neither was I even slightly intrigued by the idea of a garden. But now.. that has changed!

So, as a self proclaimed novice gardener I have a small collection of plants in my inventory. Let me begin with my most treasured plant, which is the Bhut Jolokia (a.k.a Ghost Chili Pepper).

Chili Scoville Heat Scale:
1,500,000–2,000,000Most law enforcement grade pepper sprayTrinidad Moruga Scorpion
855,000–1,463,700Naga Viper pepper, Infinity Chilli, Bhut Jolokia chili pepperTrinidad Scorpion Butch T pepper, Bedfordshire Super Naga
350,000–580,000Red Savina habanero
100,000–350,000Habanero chiliScotch bonnet pepperDatil pepperRocotoMadame Jeanette, Peruvian White Habanero, Jamaican hot pepper, Guyana Wiri Wiri
50,000–100,000Byadgi chilliBird's eye chili (aka. Thai Chili Pepper), Malagueta pepperChiltepin pepperPiri piri (African bird's eye)Pequin pepper
30,000–50,000Guntur chilliCayenne pepperAjí pepper,[16] Tabasco pepper, Cumari pepper (Capsicum chinese),Katara (spicy)
10,000–23,000Serrano pepperPeter pepperAleppo pepper
3,500–8,000Espelette pepperJalapeño pepper, ChipotleGuajillo pepper, New Mexican varieties of Anaheim pepper, Hungarian wax pepperTabasco sauce
1,000–2,500Anaheim pepperPoblano pepperRocotillo pepperPeppadew
100–900PimentoPeperonciniBanana pepper
0No significant heat, Bell pepperCubanelleAji dulce

As you can see from the chart, the chili that we are familiar with in Malaysia, the Chili Padi (a.k.a Bird's Eye) has a SHU (Scoville Heat Units) rating of 50,000-100,000SHU. And Chili Padi's are very spicy! The Bhut Jolokia I'm currently growing has a Scoville rating of 1, 041,427 SHU's! That's about 10 times hotter than the Chili Padi!! By the way, Scoville units are measurements for capsaicin, which is the chemical that gives us the spicy feeling.

1 SHU unit = 1 drop of water to neutralize the spiciness.

Chili Padi = 50,000- 100,000 SHU.

Bhut Jolokia (a.k.a Ghost Pepper) = 1,041,427 SHU!

I am growing two Bhut Jolokia's, managed to get the rare seeds through my older bro. They were rather tough to grow at first, but now they are healthy! It took about a month for the seeds to germinate.

My precious babies..
When they were about a month old

Today: My babies aged 2 months after date of germination. Looking healthy!

Here is a video to demonstrate the potency of the Ghost Pepper. By the way, they nicknamed it Ghost Pepper because people who ate it tend to look like ghosts afterwards..

This macho man didn't do so well!

This is how the chili should look like when harvested.

I can't wait to eat them!!  about 100 days to go before flowering, and then harvesting. I can't wait to harvest them.. I feel like playing chili pranks on my friends.. he he he...

Asian Youth Orchestra 2011 - Part 1 of 4

Summer last year, (from where I come from it's summer all year long but heck.. People use 'summers' to signify holiday months) Okay.. so summer last year I went on an incredible journey. It was no doubt the best 'summer' I have ever had.

It begun in Hong Kong, where I met up with a hundred of Asia's finest pre-professional musicians *I quote*.  I felt very lucky to make the cut. The standards in the AYO are incredibly high. Fellow musicians will know what I'm talking about but in laymen's terms, it simply means that people there were just better. Well, seeing that those who made it through the audition were of the best from their respective countries, of course only from those who did audition. For those who got through, it was an all-expense paid (non inclusive of beers), scholarship pumped heck of a 'working-holiday', as I call it.

So there are just too many photos to share here, I'll just put up a few, and most importantly pictures of concert halls that we performed in. Some of them were stunning! We performed in 9 cities in 8 countries around Asia, which were Hong Kong, Beijing, Tianjin, Hanoi, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Taipei, and Tokyo.

Hong Kong at night

We had a poolside dinner at the Grand Hyatt, Hong Kong

Our tables by the pool

If you look carefully, you can see hills in the background, just by the sea. It's not in this picture but you can see the city right next to the sea on the left, (visible IFC tower in pic). The view when I walked to the end of the pool was really nice.

Dinner view from the pool

Dinner freshly served from the grill!
In another dinner at another night in Harbour View Renaissance Hotel...

I went straight for the Alaskan King Crabs and Lobsters.. Yummehh!

Me looking like a triad hitman at Victoria Harbour in Hong Kong lol
We rehearsed for many hours every day!
This is where we went during breaks. So tired, most of us just dropped on the floor. (at HK Academy of Performing Arts)

So after 3 weeks of grueling rehearsals in Hong Kong, it was time for the concert tour!
Here we are in our red shirts, off to our first destination. Beijing!

HK International Airport

Bye, Hong Kong!

To be continued..

Filming a video for Petronas

So here I am attempting to revive my blog after two years of not posting anything. Let me begin with a recent engagement I had, filming for a Youtube webisode on behalf of the Malaysian Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (MPYO), where I have been and still am a violinist, for the past 7 years.

Let me tell you first, answering questions on a filmed interview is not easy when you gotta think of so many things at once, and especially when a lady like Stephanie Chai is looking into your eyes waiting for your answer!

Thankfully I managed to keep my head on my neck and continued talking.. (while grabbing my jeans!)

Honestly, I still can't finish watching the video without twitching or banging on the table.. I just did it again while writing this post..

Not forgetting, thanks to the crew from Zenith Media who did an awesome job filming and editing my many bloopers!

Anyways.. The video has had 20k views as of now! Not too bad, huh! x) Can't wait for December to come, as I'll be touring with the orchestra to Australia!

The Libran Man

A Libran man can answer all your questions, but he cannot solve the puzzle of your typically girlish dreams. He likes to maintain a balance in everything he does and that includes love too. If you have been captivated by him once, there is a minuscule chance that you will be able to leave him. Even if try to back off, he will convince you with such persuasive arguments that you would be left with no other option, but to stay. He will cover the contradictions of his behavior with such charm that you will be entrapped once again, with nowhere to go.

God help you if he smiles! You will fall in love with him again. Don't blame yourself; the smile of a Libra male is so captivating that not even his enemies can resist it. Now, when you are totally enamored, you are bound to forget your own existence. His charm will result in you seeing his dreams and his happiness being your utmost priority. The first thing you will notice about him is that he finds it very difficult to make up his mind. If even after much deliberation, he has been able to do that, he may change his opinion in a split second if he thinks he made a mistake.

If you really want to fight him, turn your back towards him while fighting and stuff your ears with cotton. If he looks at you with that smile of his and starts his convincing arguments in that smooth tone, you won't stand a single chance of winning. As far as romance is concerned, your Libra guy will never fall short of it. He can use his pleasing manner and graceful charm and win any girl in sight. Once he wins her heart, he is not too sure what to do with it and this is when the problems start. Even if the situation demands a break up, he will always try to postpone it as much as he can.

Though he does this just to make sure that this is what is best for the both of them, he hurts a person's feelings in the process. Even the opposite case, when he is deciding whether to propose marriage or not, is equally painful. On top of that, if he thinks he is being unfair to you, the confusion gets more pronounced. Libran men tend to confuse love with friendship and vice-versa. They keep searching for the perfect girl and if the relationship doesn't turns out to be as they expected it, they become a little heartbroken and then move on with life.

A lost love seldom makes a deep wound in a Libran heart. It forgives and forgets. A Libra man is never interested in prying out your secrets. He delves deeper into a topic just to get a fair view of it and not with the aim of dissecting a situation. All he wants are the facts, not the personal nuances lying underneath them. He will from an opinion about your behavior, but he wouldn't take too much pain to know why you behave the way you do. A Libran is like a judge who passes his judgments on the basis of the facts, not the emotions triggering them. He is not interested in gossip and is not the one to tell your personal secrets to anyone.

So, you can trust him with all your heart. A Libran male will listen to your inner dreams, desires and hopes. However, do not expect him to understand your silent hopes. He is not good at that and all your hopes may come thrashing to the ground. You will have to learn to live with it. At the same time, don't expect him to take your side when you are wrong. He has built-in mechanism of being fair, even when it involves you. A Libran guy is generous with money and stinginess is not one of his personality traits.

His house will be full of guests every now and then, but he dislikes going to crowded places that are full of strangers. He likes people, but if the numbers become too large, he becomes uncomfortable. If you are planning to get married to him, develop the habit of keeping the house neat, clean and full of good fragrances. A Libran guy cannot tolerate sloppiness and pungent cooking smells make him feel depressed. He may be careless and shoddy himself, but you will be expected to keep yourself, the kids as well as the house attractive all the time. He may not say anything about this, but his behavior will.

Staying out till late, sleeping all the time he is at home, etc, are some of the signs that things are not right. This is something you will have to analyze and correct. Otherwise, you may lose a very devoted, generous, fair and pleasing husband, who has a smile that can melt any heart. As a father, a Libra male will teach his kids the sense of fairness, discipline and debate. He will dote on them, but they will never come before you. His fatherly affection won't overshadow his romantic feelings for you. Just remember to take initiative in the relationship, keep him loved and nourished and he will always keep you warm with his captivating smile!
